Are you an asylum seeker or a refugee?

Come to our Volunteering Information Sessions.

If you are interested in finding out about volunteering in charities (other than Scottish Refugee Council) in Glasgow, you can attend one of our monthly Volunteering Information Sessions to find out about volunteering opportunities. This information session is held on the last Thursday of every month (except December) and is open to asylum seekers and refugees only, at all stages of the asylum process.

The next meeting will be held on: Thursday 26 July 2pm-4pm.

We will present to you the services of Volunteer Glasgow and explain how you can use their website to search for opportunities. Representatives from some Glasgow-based charities will also be attending to promote volunteering opportunities within their organisations.

Please register to attend. If you would like to join us, email volunteering@scottishrefugeecouncil.org.uk or call 0141 248 9799.

NEW: Communities Refugee Advisory Group

We are calling for volunteers to be part of the Communities Refugee Advisory Group. This is an exciting new initiative being set up by Scottish Refugee Council's Community Development (CD) Team.

The purpose of the Communities Refugee Advisory Group is for refugees to advise and influence the CD team in the work they and the wider organisation do with Refugee Communities.

The Communities Refugee Advisory Group will have the opportunity to contribute their informed views on:

  • New projects and activities the CD Team is planning
  • The development of ways of working or the revision of operational procedures the CD Team may require.

Members of the Communities RAG should be:

  • Committed to helping different refugee communities to have a voice and to influence activities that affect them
  • Interested in learning about Community Development and ensuring it is done well. This is a great opportunity for individuals to enhance their learning and skills development by taking part in structured meetings and discussing and debating issues which have an impact on their communities.

There will be 8 meetings during the year (approx. every 6 weeks) to set priorities, monitor progress and amend activities to meet the needs of communities.

How to get involved

Please register your interest by sending an email to
Jewels Lang, Community Development Manager – jewels.lang@scottishrefugeecouncil.org.uk. Closing date is 27th July 2018.
Full Terms of Reference for the Group and its members are available and an induction session will be given to successful volunteers to ensure they fully understand the role of the group and its membership.
