Scottish Refugee Council has 40 years’ experience working with people from all over the world. Our training courses draw on that expertise to enhance and elevate your knowledge and skills base, and help you to do your job better.

We deliver a range of regular online public training sessions for individual practitioners. You can also commission any of these trainings for your organisation or we can work with you to make something bespoke.

Introduction to refugees: asylum and resettlement

This is an introductory course for practitioners working with people seeking asylum or refugees. This session will help you understand the refugee journey, legal processes, rights and entitlement and identify sources of support.

Introduction to working with interpreters

This training is for practitioners working with spoken language interpreters. This session will help you understand roles and responsibilities, professional boundaries and good practice.

Universities of Sanctuary training

This is a training for higher education practitioners. The session will introduce you to terminology, UK protection routes, rights and entitlements, ways to reduce barriers to higher education and establishing a welcoming culture in your institution.

Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) and citizenship (information sessions)

This is a training that Local Authorities can commission for people with refugee status or humanitarian protection in their area. This session helps participants understand leave to remain and British citizenship.

Working with unaccompanied refugee children

An introductory course for practitioners working with unaccompanied children. This session will help you understand the different stages of a young person’s journey, terminology and processes around asylum, trafficking, age assessment and how to support in a trauma-informed way.
