On Wednesday 29th September, we held our first New Scots Storytellers workshop – a series of workshops supporting people with lived experience of migration, refugeehood or the asylum system in Scotland to prepare for sharing their story with the media.

We created a collaborative poem together based on the group’s happy memories from their time in Scotland.

Scotland is our second home.

Scotland is my second home

I remember friendship

Sunshine

The hospitality and generosity

Benbecula

Flat, not like Glasgow

Fishing

Edinburgh Zoo

How happy my daughter was

Iona

I could not smell any carbon

Everything was pure

I wish the world could be like that

Glen Coe

Cool Autumn air

Wind coming in waves

Misty mountains

Heather beneath our feet

Free for the first time

Hospital

The day our son was born

First time parents

Sun was shining but very cold

Joyous, happy

Anxiety, mum so far away

When I fell in love with Scotland

The things I look for elsewhere

I can find here

Scotland is my second home

Believe in yourself

There is light at the end of the tunnel
