Mossvale Church is a busy community hub in Paisley. Every Wednesday morning the church’s café, the Mossy, hosts an All Nations sewing group. Women from different backgrounds gather around the sewing machines and chat as they sew, getting to know each other and finding out about life in Scotland. The group is part of our Sharing Lives, Sharing Languages project, which provides informal and social opportunities for language practice and friendship.

Sometimes the group is joined by young people from nearby Mossvale Primary School. The primary 7s enjoy meeting people from different countries and cultures as well as getting the chance to practice their own sewing skills.  They are a creative and talented class so when they invited us to their Burns Supper we knew it would be a treat.

The class put on an amazing afternoon of poetry, music and performance to celebrate the Bard. The toast to the lassies was probably the best, and funniest, we’d ever heard.

Watching the young people perform was hugely inspiring. Then we heard they’d sold the items they’d been sewing – bags, cushion covers – and raised £102 for us!

We were really moved by this and honoured to meet such an inspiring class.

Thank you Mossvale Primary for the brilliant afternoon and your ace fundraising.

Thanks to Sewing2gether who also sold their creations over Christmas and raised £80 for our work with refugees in Scotland.
