Community Events Fundraising Volunteer

Time Commitment:   6-12 hours a month approximately. (Exact times by arrangement)

Responsible to:         Community and Events Fundraising Officer (CEFO) and Trust & Supporters Officer (TSO)

Duration:                    6 months minimum commitment

The Funding Development Team is responsible for developing support for Scottish Refugee Council by increasing our income from public fundraising, trusts and corporate partnerships. We also help raise the profile of the organisation and refugee issues with the public in Scotland through our Refugee Speaker Programme.

This role calls for a dynamic, flexible, well-organised and motivated individual who will work closely with the Trusts and Supporter Officer and the Community and Events Fundraising Officer.

What will I be doing?

  • Represent Scottish Refugee Council at fundraising and community events. This will involve meeting a variety of organisations, societies and individuals to build the profile of Scottish Refugee Council; recruiting new supporters at events and assisting with raising funds.
  • Support the fundraising team with setting up stalls at events, manning stalls during the course of the event, talking one- to-one with members of the public and showing them how they can get further involved.
  • Collecting, distributing and returning fundraising materials to our Head Office as agreed.
  • Report on the successes and challenges encountered to the Funding Development Team.
  • Other tasks as agreed and required.

Attendance at events will be agreed between the staff and Community Fundraising Volunteer by prior arrangement. Due to the nature of community events, volunteer times will vary. Events may be held on week days and evenings, with occasional weekend opportunities.

What skills or qualities do I need?

  • Interest in Refugees and Human Rights
  • Good verbal communication skills;
  • Great inter-personal skills, with a desire and interest to work with others
  • Confident and outgoing;
  • An ability to work in a team with others;
  • Honest;
  • Reliable and self-motivated.

There is the potential to continue beyond the initial six months.
