Our CEO Sabir Zazai was recently asked, “what would you take with you if you were to flee again?”
Here, he reflects on this question in a poem:
“If I had seconds to flee the cage of war;
If I were to flee the mouth of shark;
If I were to flee again in search of sanctuary I will take with me my dignity;
If I were to flee again for a better life I will take with me hope to overcome dead ends;
Oh if I were to flee again I will take with me love to make new friends;
If I were to flee again I will take with me a collection of happy moments to make new memories;
Oh if I were to flee again I will take with me grace to overcome miseries;
If I were to flee again I will take with me pen and paper to note the blessings of new beginnings;
Oh if I were to flee again I will take with me a mirror to look into remind myself of my roots and upbringings;
In this world of despair with so much to repair, if we were to flee again we will always bring prosperity to enrich our new homes.”
