Writing for Refugee Women

Scottish Refugee Council and Refugee Survival Trust approached the award winning writers Jackie Kay and Jane McKie and to support the Stop Destitution campaign. Both met with three destitute refugee women in Glasgow in order to write a creative response to their experiences.

Jackie Kay three poems: 'Glasgow Snow', 'Constant' and 'Push the Week'. On International Women's Day 2013, Jackie Kay premiered them to a small audience at the Glasgow Women's Library.

The event Writing for Refugee Women was also host to a wide-ranging discussion of poetry and asylum issues featuring Mary Fee MSPand Scottish Refugee Council's Women's Policy Officer Nina Murray.
