Scottish Refugee Council launches new fundraising campaign

Scottish Refugee Council has launched a new fundraising campaign ‘Tastes from Home’.

Our new fundraising initiative will ask people up and down the country to host a food-inspired event to raise money for our vital work with refugees in Scotland.

Funds raised will support Scottish Refugee Council’s wide-ranging services, including our work with children and families; our one-to-one support for people who have recently received refugee protection; and our work supporting individuals who are destitute and facing street homelessness.

As we gather to celebrate Christmas, Hogmanay and Burns Night, there are plenty of opportunities for people to get involved in the campaign and hold their own ‘Tastes from Home’ fundraiser.

One of our supporters, Alex, held a ‘Tastes from Home’ Persian-inspired banquet for her 25th birthday and raised more than £450 for Scottish Refugee Council. She said: “I love experimenting with food from around the world and Tastes from Home felt like the perfect way to celebrate my birthday while raising money for something I care about.”

Louise McGovern, Fundraising Officer at Scottish Refugee Council said: “Across all cultures, food is about sharing, community and hospitality.  Our new ‘Tastes from Home’ campaign is about celebrating the power of food and encouraging our supporters to get together with their loved ones, share some delicious food, and raise money for a great cause”
