The New Scots Gathering 2019 in Edinburgh is a completely FREE event inviting refugees, asylum seekers, community groups and neighbours to meet, talk, learn together and engage with the New Scots Integration Strategy (find out more about the strategy at the here).


New Scots, neighbours, community groups, social projects and policy-makers from Edinburgh, Midlothian, West Lothian, East Lothian and the Scottish Borders will gather and work together to build a Scotland that is welcoming and safe for all.

The event includes:

  • Delicious food by Morven Lindsay from Refugee Community Kitchen
  • Music and performances by Levant Dabke Group and Bassel Sami Alissa
  • Workshops on Entrepreneurship and Social Entrepreneurship for New Scots and community groups
  • Art exhibitions by Syrian Futures and COLOURS of Edinburgh
  • Science and art activities by Science Ceilidh and COLOURS of Edinburgh
  • Information stalls from local projects to learn about available services and volunteering opportunities
  • A workshop on Community Sponsorship provided by RESET

Participation is FREE. Refreshments and lunch will be provided

Assistance with transport costs will be available for refugees and asylum seekers. If you are traveling from within Edinburgh please buy a day ticket and present it on the day to receive reimbursement. If you are traveling from outside Edinburgh, please contact to arrange reimbursement.

Children's activities will be available. The Gathering will be in English, with Arabic translation available.
