Cup of Tea with a Refugee week in October

This October, we want everyone to have a Cup of Tea with a Refugee, and for Scots old and new to come together over some hot tea and some home baking.

During National Baking Week (16-22 October) we will be publishing different recipes from old and new Scots in preparation for the week beginning 23 October, which will be Cup of Tea with a Refugee Week.

That week, we will be encouraging groups across Scotland to host their own Cup of Tea events. You can find out more about running an event by visiting and downloading an event pack with poster templates, tea serving ideas, topics for discussion and more.

Whether you are a café owner or a church group, a bunch of neighbours or colleagues, these events are a great way to bring people together to get to know one another in a friendly, relaxed way.

Community groups across Scotland have held Cup of Tea with a Refugee events, and people who have taken part have been really positive about the experience.

One attendee said: “A really lovely way to engage with new people. We all have a favourite cuppa and there’s nothing like a brew to share a story over.”

Another said: "That was my first time at an event like this and I enjoyed every minute of it. well done for organising."

One of the event organisers said: “What happened was a community meeting. An engagement of individuals over a shared experience. Simple and hugely effective.”

If you’d like to host an event, do make the most of our event pack, and let us know so that we can publicise the event on your behalf, if you’d like us to. You can contact us here.
