RFS17 | Share My Table Open Day

Share my Table is a new participatory arts project led by Scottish Refugee Council and Tramway, that uses food from around the world as a starting point for conversations about the media and belonging.

As part of Refugee Festival Scotland, we are opening up our multi-artform project to the public to share some of the exciting work we've created so far.

Since January this year, refugees and local Scots have been gathering at Tramway in Glasgow to take part in creative workshops, aimed at exploring the media portrayal and public perceptions of refugees and asylum seekers.

Through sharing stories, food and art, the participants have made connections with each other and with Glasgow.

"The workshops are good for our psyche, they give us the feeling that we are welcome here and that we are among our friends"

Mapping Glasgow. Share My Table members explored how we move through the city and what we experience on our journeys.

Pinhole Photography. The Share My Table team have been uncovering hidden stories of Glasgow, through experimental photography.

"Time at Share My Table is a stress free moment, it gives me a sense of belonging, it makes me useful in a bad situation, keeps me active and I also make connections with others"

Red Block Printing. The group worked with designer Neil McGuire to develop the visual identity of the project through block printing. This work evolved into the Share My Table image used throughout the project.

"I love to come to Share My Table because it is so much fun with mind blowing activities. I never realise the passing of time. I am so engaged with it!"

Join the Share My Table team for their project open day, Saturday 1 July at Tramway Glasgow.  Everyone is welcome to come along between 10.30am and 3.30pm. There will be lots of food, conversation and interactive activities throughout the day.

*Families welcome but adults should be aware of the challenging themes
