Receipt of support (UK figures)

These are the latest complete year statistics from 2013 for the UK as a whole. Separate figures are not provided for Scotland.

At the end of 2013:

  • 23,459 asylum seekers and their dependents were being supported under Section 95.
  • There were 4,831 refused asylum seekers and their dependents receiving Section 4 support. Section 4 is short-term support provided if an application for asylum has been refused, and the applicant can show they are destitute. It is provided in the form of accommodation and vouchers to cover the cost of food and other basic items.
