Jackie Kay

JK1Jackie Kay was born to a Scottish mother and Nigerian father in Edinburgh and brought up in Bishopbriggs by her adoptive parents. She has published five collections of poetry for adults (The Adoption Papers won the Forward Prize, a Saltire Award and a Scottish Arts Council Book Award) and several for children. Her novel Trumpet, the story of a jazz trumpeter won yet more awards, as did her memoir Red Dust Road. She has also written radio plays, short story collections and is currently Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Newcastle. She was awarded an MBE in 2006.
