Joint parliamentary briefing on counter terror measures in the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Bill  November 2005
The government has introduced a number of counter terror measures to the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Bill during the Standing Committee stage.  The Scottish Refugee Council and several other agencies are concerned about the impact of these measures and are particularly opposed to Clause 51, which seeks to restrict the right to asylum.  We believe the inclusion of this clause is unjustified because terrorists are excluded from being granted asylum by other legislation. Joint response to the Home Office consulation on anti-terror measures August 2005
On the 5th August the Home Secretary, Charles Clarke, announced an emergency consultation on Government proposals to extend their powers to exclude or deport people from the UK. The Scottish Refugee Council has submitted a response to the consultation, along with seven other agencies (PDF).
