Services and organisations for women

Karibu Scotland: Runs several projects throughout Glasgow to promote the confidence, skills and integration of African women. Email info@karibuscotland.org.uk or call Karibu Scotland on 0141 258 2535 for more information. Pearce Institute, 840-860 Govan Road, Glasgow G51 3UU

Bridges Programme: Runs courses for women only including women’s empowerment classes and provide childcare. Also arranges work shadowing and work experience for refugees and people seeking asylum across all industries and business sectors.

One Parent Families Scotland – employability services has projects across Scotland providing services to families. They run a variety of workshops that help support lone parents living within Glasgow to take up employment and prepare for the future. They also run the Lone Parent Helpline – a free and confidential helpline for lone parents and agencies working with lone parents in Scotland. Call: 0808 801 0323.

Women onto Work (Edinburgh) supports unemployed women in Edinburgh, including black and minority ethnic women, to move into employment, education or further training by providing free pre-vocation training programmes which include careers guidance, confidence building, job search skills and a work placement. Do you want to learn English with other women?

There are many places across Scotland where you can learn ESOL or ‘English for Speakers of Other Languages’. You can find details of different places offering classes elsewhere on our website [LINK TO: main SRC page which lists ESOL, volunteering etc. as above]. Some organisations offer women-only English classes. You can always ask ESOL providers if women-only classes are available.

One organisation providing different levels of women-only classes with a crèche is the YWCA at 3 Newton Terrace (Sauchiehall St), Charing Cross, G3 7PJ. Call 0141 248 5338 for more information about times and availability.
