The Simple Acts Campaign is about inspiring people to use small, everyday actions to change perceptions of refugees.
If everyone does just one Simple Act, we believe it’ll make a big difference to how refugees are perceived in the UK.
There are 20 acts altogether, such as reading a book about exile and cooking a dish from another country.
It sounds simple - and it is!
Celebrity Simple Act
Gruffalo author Julia Donaldson has completed her Simple Act at Milngavie Primary. She read her book 'The Snail and the Whale', and asked children to act out scenes from her play 'Bombs and Blackberries'.
Julia says, ‘The Snail and the Whale' is ... about displacement. The snail is a willing traveller, but like many refugees her journey takes her to a completely different world which overwhelms and dazzles her. I hope that children who read the story will gain some insight into the challenges faced by children who are uprooted.
‘I hope that as well as imagining some of the difficulties faced by refugees they might also learn that people in the host country can often make a positive difference to the lives of the incomers. In Bombs and Blackberries the friendliness of some of the country children has a healing effect on the homesick children.’
