Where to get information, advice and help

November 2009

Scottish Refugee Council has developed an advice leaflet for women who have experienced abuse or mental health issues.  The leaflet highlights where to get information, support and help in Scotland and identifies key findings from the report on asylum-seeking women, voilence and health. 

Leaflets are available in English, Farsi, Somali, Urdu, French and Tigrinian.

Women’s Group 

Mother Theresa Albanian and Women Across the World Group

Are you a female asylum seeker or refugee in Glasgow?   If you would like to meet other women living in the Glasgow area, share experiences and make new friends in a welcoming environment, join the women’s group.

The group is open to all women, including former Scottish Refugee Council Women’s Group members.  Children are also welcome and a crèche will be provided.  Lunch is provided and a contribution towards travel expenses will also be offered.

The group meets every Thursday at Garnethill Multicultural Centre 21 Rose Street, Glasgow G3 6RE, between 12.30 pm - 2.30 pm.

Rape Crisis Scotland

Rape Crisis Scotland provides a national rape crisis helpline for anyone affected by sexual violence: 08088 01 03 02. The helpline is open from 6pm to midnight, 7 days a week, and offers free and confidential initial and crisis support and information.

A range of information multilingual leaflets are also available on their website in: Polish, Urdu, Punjabi, Chinese, Arabic and French.

Refugee Women: know your rights leaflet

August 2005

Refugee Action has produced a leaflet outlining British laws and services that offer protection to all women, including for refugees and asylum seekers. It is available in multiple languages from their website.
