Health

If your asylum application is under consideration (including appeals) you are entitled to National Health Service (NHS) treatment.

After you have arrived at your accommodation you will receive a letter inviting you to register with your local doctor. If you have problems registering with a doctor please contact your project worker or the Scottish Refugee Council.

If you are supported by the National Asylum Support Service (NASS) they will issue you with an HC2 certificate which you must present to your doctor as official documentation. If you are not supported by NASS you will need to complete an HC1 certificate in order to access health care. The Scottish Refugee Council can help you do this.

Refugees (people with leave to remain) have the same rights as any UK national to healthcare.

Your doctor can also talk to you about any mental health problems you are experiencing: if you are feeling depresssed, isolated or something has happened to you that you are finding it difficult to talk about. Your doctor may refer you to specialists who are trained to help you with the way you are feeling.
