Nelson Mandela
Nelson Mandela was President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999, and was the first South African president to be elected in a fully representative democratic election. Before his presidency, he served 27 years in jail for his involvement in the struggle against apartheid. A Nobel Peace Prize winner, he campaigns against the spread of HIV and has been involved in various peace initiatives around the world.
Lord McCluskey
Lord McCluskey is a former Solicitor General for Scotland. He became a life peer in 1976 and was made a judge in 1984. He has a political interest in human rights and has written books on the issue as well as being a member of the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute.
Joyce McMillan
Joyce McMillan is chief theatre critic of the national Scottish paper The Scotsman, and also writes political and social commentary for the publication. She broadcasts regularly on BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio 4. She has been involved in many campaigns for democracy and human rights, both in Scotland and internationally.
