Advice Services

Our advice services are at the heart of what we do

These include:

• Scottish Induction Service (SiS)
  Based at the Y People building in Springburn, North Glasgow, this service ensures newly-arrived asylum seekers have access to financial support as well as legal and medical care. We provide information briefings on the asylum process and give practical information about life in the UK.
• One Stop Service
  Drop-in advice and information service at our Glasgow city-centre office. Our caseworkers offer support and advice for people going through the asylum process as well as information on housing and medical care. The service does not offer legal advice but can help you to contact a legal represenative specialising in asylum.

• Refugee Integration Services
  Our team will continue to work with new refugees to assist them in integrating into Scotland.  Advice and advocacy is offered for a one-year period enabling people granted Leave to Remain to learn about and access their rights and entitlements.
  
  Our advisers provide expertise in housing, welfare rights, employability and more to encourage people to actively participate in their communities and wider society.

• Community Engagement
  We work with refugees wishing to set up their own representative organisations or receive communities providing services to support asylum seekers and refugees or promoting integration locally.
  We work alongside local development workers and other capacity building agencies to achieve this.
  
  We also work to influence policy and strategy in this area alongside other partners such as the Scottish Refugee Policy Forum and Refugee Women’s Strategy Group.

• Financial Literacy Project
  This project offers free workshops to refugees to help them develop financial skills, understand their options and avoid potential financial risks. Workshops cover topics including budgeting, borrowing money and getting insurance. Specialised sessions are also available such as starting a business.
